CLEVELAND GUARDIANS TICKET RAFFLE FOR VAONA!

We’re raffling off TWO pairs of tickets to the Cleveland Guardians game on September 19! Raffle entries are $10 each, and each entry gives you a chance to win one of two pairs of tickets, each valued at $225!

Pair #1: Section 159, Row L, Seats 3 & 4

Pair #2: Section 160, Row L, Seats 5 & 6

Raffle runs through August 31 at 11:59 PM.

Winners will be drawn September 1 at 9:00 AM.

All proceeds will go toward Vaona’s medical care. After weeks of frightening neurological symptoms and seizures, testing has led us to a suspected liver shunt. Thankfully, with medication, Vaona is already feeling so much better and finally getting to show us the sweet, vocal little girl underneath all of those symptoms.

Now we need to get her to the finish line. Vaona needs a CT scan to locate the shunt followed by surgery to repair it, with the cost expected to be just over $9,000. This raffle is one of several ways we’re working to raise what she needs to give her the chance at the long, happy life she deserves.

$10 gives you a chance to win some great Guardians seats AND helps us get Vaona one step closer to surgery!

Entries close August 31st, 2026. Winners will be drawn on September 1st.

Meet Vaona

Vaona came to Euclid Beach Cat Project with what we thought would be a pretty simple path ahead of her. She was a sweet young cat coming to us from a local veterinary hospital, and the original plan was for her to go to one of our adoption centers and begin looking for a family of her own.

Almost immediately, though, we knew something wasn’t right. Vaona was shaky and wobbly, and at first we wondered if she might have cerebellar hypoplasia. Then things began to change quickly. She started having frightening episodes where she would drool excessively, shake, stare off into space, and seem disconnected from everything around her. At times she appeared to temporarily lose her vision and hearing, and then the seizures began. They became more frequent and more intense, leading to repeated trips back to the hospital and care from the Critical Care team at Great Lakes VCA, where she was receiving excellent support and stabilization.

We knew we needed answers, so we were able to get Vaona in for an urgent neurology consultation at MedVet Cleveland. She underwent extensive bloodwork, chest radiographs, and pre- and post-meal bile acid testing. We had already ruled out Toxoplasmosis, and there were several possible diagnoses being considered. When both of her bile acid results came back elevated, along with abnormalities in her bloodwork, the findings became strongly suggestive of a liver shunt.

As serious as that diagnosis is, it also gave us hope because liver shunts can be treated. Vaona was started on Keppra, metronidazole, and lactulose, and within just a few days the change was incredible. We should also share that we have already spent over $2,000 on Vaona’s emergency care, diagnostics, hospitalizations, and stabilization up to this point. Despite everything she has been through, she began cleaning herself again, became more vocal, and was much more engaged with the world around her. Her quality of life improved dramatically. She does still have some neurologic deficits, and we don’t yet know whether those will be permanent, but seeing how much she improved with medical management showed us that she still has a very real chance.

The next step is a CT scan to determine exactly where the abnormal vessel is located and whether surgery can correct it. We have been through this before with another EBCP cat, Simon Bassett, whose liver shunt surgery in 2021 gave him a second chance at life. We are hoping to give Vaona that same opportunity.

Unfortunately, the CT scan and surgery are expected to cost more than $9,000. For a small rescue, that is an enormous amount of money. We use our general medical funds every day for emergencies, surgeries, medications, diagnostics, dentals, and the many other needs of the cats in our care. When we take on an extraordinarily expensive special-needs case like Vaona, we try to raise funds specifically for that cat so her treatment does not take resources away from the many others depending on us.

That is why we are asking our village to help us give Vaona this chance. Every $5, $10, $20, or $25 donation truly adds up, and sharing her story can be just as powerful.

Not long ago, we were watching a young cat lose touch with the world around her while seizures took over her little body, not knowing whether we were dealing with something we could fix. Today, she is grooming herself, talking to us, interacting more normally, and feeling so much better.

She has a real chance, and we want to do everything we can to make sure finances are not the reason that chance ends here. Thank you for continuing to stand beside the cats who need a little more from us and for helping us keep saying yes when they need us most.
